The Call to Action
DRAG IS JOY, BUT IT'S UNDER ATTACK.
OUR VERY EXISTENCE, OUR SELF-EXPRESSION, OUR ART–ALL OF IT IS BEING THREATENED. AND WE'VE HAD ENOUGH.
We've always had to fight tooth and nail for our place in this world. We bust our asses to make a living as independent entrepreneurs, dealing with shady venues, building our own audiences, creating stunning looks, and putting on unforgettable shows. But now, we're also battling a tidal wave of hate–doxxing, harassment, death threats, armed protests, bombings, and even shootings. Hateful politicians want to police gender expression and our art through intimidation and legislation.
BUT LET'S GET ONE THING STRAIGHT: WE ARE SURVIVORS.
We are part of a vibrant tradition of self-identified drag performers like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera who stood up to those in power, stood up against hate and for a world where we can all express our complete selves. But these brave icons were not alone, they had the support of their local artists, community members and allies.
That's why we're calling on every single one of you–artists, fans, allies–to join us as Qo-Founders of Qommittee. With enough support, we can build an organization that can:
Fight back hard against violence, threats, doxxing, and harassment.
Provide legal aid, therapy, and community support to artists targeted for hate.
Help artists get what they deserve from venues and navigate the business of drag.
Protect our right to perform and to be our incredible selves.
We demand safety. We demand freedom. We demand the right to perform our art, express ourselves and to help people across America do the same.
But we can't do this alone. We need thousands of you to join our membership drive and help us turn Qommittee into a force to be reckoned with. The stage is set. The wigs are teased. The heels are high. All we need is you.
