After Alleged Threats to “Shoot Up” Co. Drag Show, Steamboat Springs to Hold Community-Wide Event on 8/21
Steamboat Springs, CO - Following a recent arrest for threatening alleged threats of violence against the Fresh Drag Show, the Steamboat Springs community is rallying to make the next show bigger and more impactful than ever with community leaders in amateur drag and a guest performance by a Club Q performer. For more information or to arrange interviews, please contact: dragisjoy@qommittee.org.
BACKGROUND: The Fresh Drag Show is the only recurring drag event in Steamboat Springs. On July 17, 2024, a man was arrested and charged with allegedly threatening to "shoot up" the show. A groundswell of community support has led to several leaders from community organizations to join in what they intend to be the largest Fresh Drag Show ever: A Night of Drag Delight and Defiance. Enhanced security will be on-hand to ensure safety. Queer Futures, the local LGBTQIA2S+ resource center for the Yampa Valley, is working with the Fresh Drag Show, local police, and with violence prevention professionals on a coordinated response and safety plan for this and future shows.
QUOTE: “We want all of Colorado to know that we are here to stay,” said show producer and drag performer Madame Sassysquatch the Rafting Queen. “Our drag show has been one of the few places that the LGBTQ+ community in our area can go to celebrate, relax and have a good time together. We celebrate everyone and no threat is ever going to stop us from being who we are."
